Located on Round Lake in Hayward, Wisconsin, the carriage house was commissioned at the clients’ request to serve as a garage and storage space, as well as additional living quarters for their expanding family. Rather than build onto the existing cabin built by the client and his father, the carriage house was conceived and became realized as an interpretation of the original A-frame cabin.

Maintaining a relatively small footprint of just 800sf, the second floor of the carriage house consists of two bedrooms, a bunkroom, a full bath, and kitchenette with a living area. Designed to highlight the wooded landscape of the property, social spaces are arranged in a way that provides unique views offering a birds-eye perspective to the lake.
